Richard Allen Forever Stamp

February 2, 2016 will always be a day of "Remembrance & Reflection" in the life of African Methodism.  It was the day that the Richard Allen Forever Stamp went from idea to reality. The concept was initiated by the late Bishop Vinton R. Anderson and the tireless follow-trough since 2002 was coordinated by Sister Jackie DuPont-Walker of the AME Church Commission on Social Action. The event coincides with Richard Allen's 256th birthday on February 14th and the 200th Anniversary of our beloved AME church.

The official stamp unveiling took place at the historic Mother Bethel AME Church in Philadelphia, the birthplace of African Methodism. The Master of Ceremonies was the incomparable Vernon Jordan, a life-long AME, and hosted by Bishop Gregory Ingram, Presiding Prelate of the 1st Episcopal District.

Joshua D. Collins, USPS Eastern Region Vice-President of Operations took great pride in revealing the stamp with current and retired AME Bishops present, along with the Mayor of Philadelphia, the Honorable Jim Kenney. The 3rd grade class of Meredith Elementary were was there to witness the historic event.

We know the "Papa Richard" is proud of all the efforts that made this event possible in his honor. Let it be instilled in our minds Forever!
