Mortgage Burning

This past weekend was a marvelous time in the life of African Methodism. Rev. Andre P. Jefferson, senior pastor of Bethel AME Church- Hampton, VA celebrated  a milestone with a mortgage burning, land dedication and banquet.  Bishop DeVeaux was  the guest preacher for the mortgage burning and presided over the land dedication. The Bethel family was able to remarkably retire a $1.1 million mortgage in 39 months!  Bethel AME Church is now in phase 2 to build a new church on the recently purchased 16 acres which allows for future development.

The day of celebration ended with  a banquet held at the Hampton Convention Center. Hampton Mayor, George Wallace gave welcome and congratulatory remarks. The evening's highlight was the empowering and challenging sermon by former Bethel AME pastor, Rev. Dr. Samuel E.
