In Memoriam...

Yesterday started out like an ordinary Monday for many people in the Washington, DC area, yet for many of those persons who were going to the jobs life will never be the same. The shooting at the Naval Yard disrupted the ebb and flow of more than 3,000 persons who work at the government facility. We would encourage all of us to offer prayers of comfort, peace and hope for the victims and their families of this heartbreaking tragedy.

Grant Award

The District of Columbia Health Link awarded the African Methodist Episcopal Church Second District (SED) Religious, Educational and Charitable Development Projects (RED) Inc., a grant in the amount of $175,000 to enroll uninsured and hard to reach residents in health coverage. We count it a marvelous blessing to be among 35 organizations chosen to play a direct and hands on role in making affordable health insurance a reality for numerous persons who suffer and perhaps die from preventable illness simply because they lack coverage, says Presiding Bishop William Phillips DeVeaux.

Cassandra Sparrow (far right), RED  Director attends IPA training with 12 other AME's.

We thank God for the opportunity to serve the people in DC and throughout the Second Episcopal District. Certainly the importance and role of AMEs was evident in the room! We have a great team with a diversity of background and skills.

Historic Weekend

Our own Mr. Geoffrey Tate, who works in the 2nd Episcopal District office shared his reflections and pictures from the historic 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. Mr. Tate said, "I was proud to take part in such a historical event. It was an honor to walk the same walk as our predecessors for the same cause of human rights and jobs. Culminating with a service at historic Metropolitan AME Church." What a wonderful weekend! Thanks for sharing Geoff!
